How to restore ATV plastic with heat gun?

It is recommended that you should restore the plastic of your ATV with the help of a heat gun. People often heat the plastic of all-terrain vehicles with the help of a heat gun but don’t get results. 

How to restore ATV plastic with heat gun? You can restore plastic on your ATV with a heat gun by cleaning the ATV plastic, covering the non-plastic area with a sheet, applying heat on the plastic, and applying olive oil. It is recommended to check after 24 hours for better results.

How to restore ATV plastic with heat gun?

This is a step-by-step guide that explains best and proven methods to easily restore ATV plastic with a heat gun. It is recommended that while restoring your All-Terrain vehicle with a heat gun, you should wear a safety helmet or glasses. The temperature of the heat gun is very high and it can burn your skin. You should not keep your ATV in sunlight after restoring it with a heat gun.

The things that you will need for restoring ATV plastic are rachet, heat gun, safety gloves, safety glasses, foam pad, detergent, water, plastic sheet, tape, cloth, olive oil, and black solution.

Detach the rear and front racks and shield plates

All-terrain vehicles contain the racks and shield plates. Before restoring the ATV plastic with a heat gun, remove the rear and front racks and shield plates of your All-terrain vehicle. There will be bolts attached to the rear and front racks and shield plates of ATV.

Take a rachet and lose the bolt attached to the rear rack. When the bolt loses, remove it with your hands. Then, remove the remaining bolts attached to the rear, front racks, and shield plates of ATV. It is recommended that you should not harshly remove the screws with the help of rachet.

The bolts of all-terrain vehicles are of different sizes are attached to the racks and shield plates. The bolts of front racks are larger and it is slightly difficult to remove them. Therefore, you will need a great force to remove them. The front rack of ATV is attached to the headlights.

You should take great care of the headlights while removing the front rack. You should wear safety gloves and safety glasses before starting the procedure of restoring ATV plastic with a heat gun. After removing the racks, the next step is to clean the All-terrain vehicle.

Clean the ATV plastic

First, wash the racks and ATV with fresh water. Then, apply a detergent on ATV and racks. Rub the detergent on ATV. If there is a lot of dust then you should remove it with the help of a foam pad. After this, wash your ATV with soap to remove dirt.

All-terrain vehicles are often used in farms and dirty places. Due to this, these are dirtier as compared to trucks and cars. If there is more dirt on the ATV then you should apply the detergent again on it. After applying detergent on ATV, rub the foam pad on it and wash it.

 After washing ATV, all the dirt will remove. If you want to wash the racks of your ATV then you can easily wash it with the described procedure. Then, leave your all-terrain vehicle to dry. When your all-terrain vehicle becomes dry, the next step is to cover the other parts of your All-terrain vehicle with a plastic sheet.

 It is recommended that you should use that detergent or soap that is commonly used for washing Al-terrain vehicles. Avoid those detergents that are not used for washing All-terrain vehicles because those detergents may contain a high amount of chemicals.

Cover the non-plastic area of ATV with sheet

The non-plastic parts of all-terrain vehicles are not restored with a heat gun. These parts are made of steel; therefore, it is better to keep them safe from the temperature of the heat gun. Point out those parts of ATV that you want to restore with a heat gun.

The heat gun produces an excess amount of heat that changes the color of plastic. First, select the part that you will treat with a heat gun. In this step, you will cover the remaining non-plastic part of ATV with a plastic sheet. Take the plastic sheet and cut it according to the size of the non-plastic area of ATV.

Then, stick the plastic sheet with the help of tape. This will keep the non-plastic area of ATV safe from the excess heat of the heat gun. It is recommended that you should cover the remaining non-plastic part of ATV with the plastic sheet when ATV becomes completely dry after washing it.

The moisture on ATV is not suitable for restoring ATV plastic with a heat gun. You should also cover the headlights and tires of All-terrain vehicles with the plastic sheet to keep them safe from excess heat.

Grasp the heat gun and move it slowly

After covering the non-plastic part of All-terrain vehicle with a plastic sheet. The next step is to restore the plastic of your All-terrain vehicle with the heat gun. The working of a heat gun is similar to the hairdryer. The heat that is produced from the heat gun changes the color of plastic.

There is a simple method of restoring ATV plastic with a heat gun. There is a switch on the heat gun that is used to set the flow of air and temperature. There is a cord attached to the heat gun. The heat gun turns ON when its cord is inserted in the switch.

Therefore, insert the cord of heat gun in the switch. If your heat gun has a display then it will show you the settings of the flow of air and status of temperature. Turn ON the heat gun. If you want to change the temperature of the heat gun then change it.

If you want to increase or decrease the flow of air then you can do it. After setting the temperature and airflow of a heat gun, grasp the heat gun on the plastic of ATV and move it in a circular motion. Don’t move the heat gun fast. It is recommended that you should move the heat gun slowly to the plastic of ATV. Also, be careful not to damage the windshield of your vehicle.

Turn OFF the heat gun and observe the difference

After heating the plastic of ATV with a heat gun for about 10 minutes, turn OFF the heat gun. You will see the new color on the plastic of ATV. For instance, the plastic color of your ATV is red and there are a lot of scratches and the red color is faded.

 After, blowing the heat gun in that area you will observe that the new red color is present on the plastic of ATV. The excess heat removes the faded color and brings a darker color. If you have set the low temperature on your heat gun, then you should grasp the heat gun on the plastic of ATV for about 15 minutes.

If you have set the high temperature on your heat gun, then you should grasp the heat gun on the plastic of ATV for about 5 to 10 minutes. If you see the faded color after restoring ATV plastic with a heat gun then you should again restore ATV plastic with a heat gun till the color changes. It is recommended that you should keep your face away from the heat gun. You can install wheel spacers for a  better experience.

Apply olive oil on the ATV plastic to fix the original color

When the original color arises on the ATV plastic, apply olive oil on the plastic to fix the original color. The original color that will arise on All-terrain’s plastic may fade. Therefore, to fix the new color on ATV plastic, add a few drops of olive oil on a cloth.

Dab the cloth softly on ATV plastic. The olive oil will fix the new color of ATV plastic. For instance, the color of your ATV is blue then after applying olive oil on it, the blue color will fix and the plastic becomes shiny.

The olive oil is often used to remove stains, and to fix the new color. Consequently, you should apply olive oil on the plastic of your all-terrain vehicle and leave the plastic of ATV to dry. You should rub the olive oil for several minutes. If you don’t have olive oil then you could use baby oil for fixing the new color of ATV. YOu can also apply this oil on the handguards of your ATV.

Apply the black solution

If the plastic of All-terrain vehicle is black then you should apply a black solution on it. The black solution will perfectly fix the new color. Take a clean foam pad and add a few drops of black solution on it. Don’t add too many drops of black solution on foam pad because a few drops of black solution are sufficient for plastic of your all-terrain vehicle. 

Rub the foam pad on the targeted part in a circular motion. ATV black plastic should be dry before applying the black solution to it. The black solution will produce a new shiny black color on the black plastic of your all-terrain vehicle. You can add more drops of the black solution if the foam pad becomes dry.

It is recommended that don’t rub harshly on the ATV plastic. Don’t use the black solution on the colored portion of ATV plastic because the black solution is just used on black plastics. After rubbing the black solution on ATV plastic, leave it to dry. You will see that the black plastic of ATV shines more than before and your ATV will look new.

Check after 24 hours

Leave the plastic of ATV to dry completely as it may take about 24 hours to dry. After 24 hours, check the new color of ATV plastic. If the new color looks adorable then it is well and good. If you don’t like the new color or plastic color of ATV still looks faded then you should restore the plastic of ATV with a heat gun.

The sunlight has harmful rays that can harm the plastic of ATV. It is recommended that you should restore ATV plastic with a heat gun twice. When you will restore the plastic ATV with a heat gun after 24 hours then the new color of All-terrains vehicle’s plastic will look better.
